(Worthy News) – Authorities say they have detained a woman suspected of sending a package with potentially deadly ricin addressed to U.S. President Donald Trump.

She was arrested at the U.S.-Canada border in New York, according to American officials. The letter sent to the White House was intercepted by federal authorities last week, Worthy News reported earlier.

Mail send to the White House is reportedly screened at an off-site location amid security concerns.

The female suspect, who wasn’t immediately identified, was taken into custody by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Peace Bridge border crossing near Buffalo.

Her motivation remained a mystery. But the discovery came amid mounting pressure on President Trump at a time of social unrest in the United States.

FEDERAL CHARGES

She was due to face federal charges related to the ricin case, law enforcement officials said.

Ricin is a highly potent toxin. A dose of purified ricin powder the size of a few grains of table salt can kill an adult human, experts say.

This wasn’t the first time President Trump was targeted with the toxin.

In 2018 Navy veteran William Clyde Allen III confessed to sending envelopes containing castor beans from which ricin is derived to the president and members of his administration.

The confession came after in 2014, a Mississippi man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for posting letters dusted with ricin to President Barack Obama and other officials.
