(Worthy News) – With Democrats leading both houses of Congress, the new Biden Administration may seek to pass legislation on issues ranging from pandemic relief to US Supreme Court reform, Just the News (JN) reports.

At the top of President Joe Biden’s list of priorities is his $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus plan which aims to provide pandemic relief to struggling families and businesses. As part of his plan, Biden proposed $1,400 direct payments that would total $2,000 when added to the $600 stimulus payments the Democrat-led House and Republican-led Senate recently passed, JN reports.

Another priority for Biden’s first year in office may be the cancellation of student debt, JN said. Senior Democrats have proposed federal government cancellations of up to$50,000 in student debt for borrowers. Biden has also stressed the need for improving national infrastructure, an issue that features heavily in the president’s $2 trillion climate change plan.

Moreover, Biden has proposed expanding Obamacare by adding a government-run public option to compete with private insurance plans, JN reported. Citizenship for illegal immigrants living in the US is another key issue the Biden Administration may seek to get started on soon. Biden campaigned to offer a path to citizenship to some 11 million people.

A central issue involving Vice President Kamala Harris particularly is a bill creating a Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans. This bill establishes a 13-member commission to “examine slavery and discrimination in the colonies and the United States from 1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies,” JN said. Biden has also expressed support for setting up a federal commission to consider whether to add more justices to the United States Supreme Court.
