(Worthy News) – A Minnesota-based Christian realtor, and former member of the LGBT community, has decided to let his license expire because his broker does not allow public expression of Biblical beliefs on homosexuality. Realtor Matt Moore announced his decision on Twitter Friday, and asked his followers for prayer as he and his wife seek God for a new direction.

In an open letter to the National Association of Realtors (NAR) dated December 10, Moore had previously raised concerns that NAR’s new anti-discrimination code would potentially foster discrimination against Chrisitan realtors. Under the new NAR code, associated realtors “must not use harassing speech, hate speech, epithets, or slurs based on race, color, religion, sex, handicap, familial status, national origin, sexual orientation, or gender identity.” Realtors may be subject to disciplinary action if they breach the code.

According to Moore, the vagueness of the wording in the code may result in its abuse, forcing Christian realtors to choose whether to remain silent on LGBT issues in public or share their Biblical beliefs and be wrongly accused and reported for hate speech.

“As a Christian and a former member of the LGBTQ+ community, I tell you from experience that a mere articulation of historic Christian beliefs about homosexuality and transgenderism is often labeled ‘hate speech,’ Moore wrote. “Countless are the times I have been falsely accused of using language that inflicts harm or incites violence upon gay and transgender people.”

Although he had asked NAR to modify its code, Moore ultimately tweeted Friday: “Would you pray for my wife and me as we seek God’s will for what’s next? This week my broker informed me that I cannot continue to talk publicly about Christian views re: LGBTQ+ issues if I want to remain with this brokerage. As of July 1st, I will no longer be a realtor.”
