(Worthy News) – Boko Haram terrorists on Wednesday murdered at least four civilians in the far north of Cameroon, a region where Christians are frequently attacked by Islamic militants who want to rid the nation of “infidels,” International Christian Concern (ICC) reports. Cameroon ranks 42 on the US Open Doors Watch List 2021 of top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted.

In a statement about last week’s attack, the mayor of the city of Mokolo, Vohot Deguime, said: “On Wednesday around 8pm (local time), Boko Haram terrorists arrived in Tourou township and shot dead three men and a woman, and wounded four others before [crossing the border to] Nigeria.”
Cameroon has seen an increase in violence and, according to ICC, this coincides with an ongoing internal battle between anglophone and francophone citizens. “The ‘Anglophone Crisis’ started in 2017, when separatists in Cameroon began trying to create a new nation known as Ambazonia,” ICC explains in its report.

“This crisis has left the government and the country open to attacks from groups like Boko Haram, who use the confusion and chaos to stage attacks, steal supplies and kill civilians,” ICC said.

ICC has called for prayer for the Lord to soften the hearts of the terrorists and to end the Boko Haram insurgency – in particular, because children are often forced to carry out atrocities on the group’s behalf. Moreover, ICC requested: “Please also pray for those who have been victims of terrorism, for the Lord to heal them and strengthen the church amidst persecution.”
