TEHRAN/JERUSALEM (Worthy News)– Iran on Monday September 28, “test” fired long range Shabab-3 and Sajjil rockets that could potentially reach Israel and U.S. military bases in the Gulf region, Iranian media said.

It was not immediately clear how many missiles were tested. “The Islamic Republic of Iran has successfully tested long-range Shahab-3 missile[s] in a military drill dubbed The Great Prophet IV in a bid to bolster its defense capabilities,” state-run Press TV said.

The Shahab-3 and Sajjil rockets are believed to have ranges of up to 2,000km (1,240 miles).

Press TV, monitored by Worthy News, said the “advanced military exercise was successfully held on Monday by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC). “

MEDIUM RANGE

Earlier, several models of medium-range Shahab-1 and Shahab-2 missiles were tested during the military drill on Sunday night, September 27.

“The Shahab-2 missiles would hit targets at least 300 kilometers(186 miles) and at the most 700 kilometers (435 miles) away,” Press TV quoted  Air Force Commander Brigadier General Hossein Salami as saying.

The actions follow Iran’s disclosure of plans to build a second uranium enrichment plant, despite mounting tensions between Iran and the West over Tehran’s nuclear ambitions.

United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said over the weekend that Iran will have to prove without a doubt that its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. “We don’t believe that they can present convincing evidence it is only for peaceful purposes. But we are going to put them to the test on October 1,” she said.

NUCLEAR TALKS

On October 1 nuclear talks are scheduled between Iran and the five permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany in Geneva, Switzerland.

The White House has told American legislators that the suspected nuclear site in the arid mountains near the city of Qom is believed to be inside a heavily guarded, underground facility belonging to the Revolutionary Guard.
