(Worthy News) – A commando unit in the Israel Defense Forces has begun using “Iron Sting,” an innovative precision-guided mortar bomb that allows it to strike terrorist targets with significantly reduced collateral damage, i24News reports. Israel has been fighting the Hamas terror group in the Gaza Strip since the brutal surprise attack and on Israeli civilians of October 7.

With dual guidance that enables an exact hit on terrorist targets in highly populated areas like Gaza City, the Iron Sting has been used by the IDF’s elite Maglan commando unit in prosecuting the current war against Hamas, i24News said.

The Iron Sting was designed by Elbit systems, an Israel-based international defense electronics company. The weapon has been used in the last two weeks to strike the launch sites of Hamas rockets directed toward Israel, i24News said.

In a statement about Iron Sting, Major General Omer Cohen, the formation commander of Maglan, said: “Thanks to the precision, lethality and expertise of the fighters, the Maglan unit in cooperation with the Air Force foiled dozens of terrorists with a variety of means, one of which is the precision IED ‘Iron Sting’.”

The Maglan commando unit specializes in anti-tank warfare and works deep inside enemy territory to attack high-value targets and collect accurate intelligence. The Maglan unit has killed over 100 terrorists inside Gaza since the war began, i24News reports.
