The poll showed that 48% of the respondents would support a national 16 16-week ban on abortion, with 27% being firmly in favor of such legislation. By contrast, 36% of the respondents would oppose such a law, with 23% being strongly opposed to it. A further 16% said they were not sure if they would support or oppose it.

In answer to a question on when they think abortion should be legal, 24% of respondents said it should always be legal, with no restrictions. Eight percent of respondents said abortion should never be legal.

Twenty-nine percent of respondents answered that abortion ‘should be legal, but with some restrictions (such as for minors or late-term abortions).’ Thirty-eight percent of respondents said abortion ‘should only be legal in special circumstances, such as when the life of the mother is in danger.’

When asked how important an issue abortion is to them, 76% of respondents said ‘important’ while 45% said it is ‘very important.’ Twenty-four percent said it is ‘not important’ and 15% said it is ‘not very important.’
