(Worthy News) – Hezbollah, the terrorist organization backed by Iran, launched 60 Katyusha rockets across the Golan Heights in what the group stated was a retaliatory move against Israeli strikes in eastern Lebanon. Hezbollah claimed the rocket barrage aimed at an Israeli military base in the Golan was a direct response to “Zionist aggression” near Baalbek, a city located over 62 miles from the border, earlier that day.  The strikes near Baalbek marked the deepest confirmed Israeli attacks since the onset of cross-border hostilities.

Alongside the significant strikes in Baalbek, the Israel Defense Forces announced the elimination of a high-ranking Hezbollah commander, Hassan Hussein Salami, in southern Lebanon through an airstrike. Salami was targeted as he drove through the village of Majadel in southern Lebanon.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) identified Salami as a regional unit commander within Hezbollah, responsible for orchestrating attacks against IDF forces and northern Israeli communities. His recent activities included directing anti-tank missile strikes on Kiryat Shmona and the 769th “Hiram” Regional Brigade’s base. Although Hezbollah acknowledged his death, along with two others in the Baalbek strikes, they did not acknowledge his command role.

The IDF attacked several Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, notably the launch site in the village of Kawkaba, from where around 60 rockets had been fired at the Golan earlier in the day.

Hezbollah shot down an Elbit Hermes 450 drone, operated by the Israeli Air Force (IAF) for surveillance and attack missions, using a surface-to-air missile over southern Lebanon’s Nabatieh area on Monday. Following the incident, the IAF demolished the downed drone to prevent the capture of sensitive technology by enemy forces.

Hezbollah official Hassan Fadlallah stated that Israel had escalated its offensive, targeting Baalbek, among other locations, in an attempt to retaliate for the downing of its drone. During a televised speech at the funeral of a Hezbollah fighter recently killed, he asserted, “The aggression towards Baalbek and any other regions will not go unanswered.”
