(Worthy News) – PEACECOREA, an indigenous Christian ministry in South Korea is encouraging local believers to pray for neighboring enemy state North Korea and to actively share the Gospel with North Korean defectors, CBN News reports.

The Korean people have seen war for much of their history. However, the last Korean war, which ended in 1953, resulted in an uneasy truce between communist North Korea and capitalist South Korea. Sharing the same culture and language, the two countries have maintained an icey quiet that South Korea’s Ministry of Defense has attributed to its alliance with the United States.

Nevertheless, North Korea has been strengthening ties with Russia and appears to be rattling its saber by becoming a nuclear threat too. Addressing this increasingly volatile situation, the Seoul-based PEACECOREA ministry is, among numerous other things, leading programs on peace and unification, providing humanitarian relief to North and South Koreans in need, and raising up a “prayer movement for churches and nations beyond denominations and nations for unification of the Korean Peninsula.”

In a statement to CBN News, retired military serviceman and PEACECOREA Founder Dr. Moon Young Huh said: “Our Lord wants us to evangelize North Korea. We should pray for that and we should work for that together. Then, we could see the Lord’s work in the future.”

Ruled by post-communist dictator President Kim Jong Un, North Korea ranks number 1 on the US Open Doors World Watch List 2024 of the top 50 countries where Christians are persecuted. “The deplorable treatment of believers is driven by the authoritarian regime’s view that Christians are a particular threat to the country’s leadership and society,” Open Doors reports in a current website statement.
