(Worthy News) – A young mother and her baby were among 30 Christians murdered by Fulani Islamic herdsmen in Nigeria’s Plateau state this month, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. Christians in Plateau have been under relentless attack by Islamic Fulani terrorists as locals attest the Nigerian government has done nothing to prevent the violence.

On April 12, more than 50 Fulani herdsmen descended on the predominantly Christian villages of Kopnanle ad Mandung-Mushu in Bokkos County and opened fire on unarmed residents, community leader and attorney Farmasum Fuddang said in a press statement.

“Under the cover of darkness, more than 50 armed Fulani terrorists descended upon the villages of Mandung-Mushu and Kopnanle, targeting innocent, unarmed, and peaceful Christian residents as they slept,” Fuddang said. Ten Christians were murdered in Kopnanle in the April 12 attacks, and 20 were slaughtered in Mangdung-Mushu, MSN reports.

“The victims include a 12-month-old girl, Peret Sylvanus, who was brutally killed by the same bullet that killed her mother, Mwanret Sylvanus,” Fuddang said of the Kopnanle attack. “The bullet pierced through Mrs. Sylvanus’ stomach and hit little Peret, who was strapped to her back, killing both of them instantly.”

Christians have been slaughtered by the tens of thousands since Islamic jihadist terrorism began to take hold in Nigeria in 2009. A resounding cry from affected communities has been that the authorities and security forces have not protected them.

“The herdsmen carried out these attacks against Christians unchallenged,” Funddang added in his statement. “These brazen attacks, which predominantly targeted Christians, including women and children, appear to be part of a calculated effort to instill fear and perpetrate further displacement within our communities… no effort has been made by the Nigerian government to curtail these attacks.”
