(Worthy News) – Washington DC on Saturday saw the fourth March for the Martyrs, an event held annually to highlight the persecution of Christians around the world and to encourage believers to “follow Jesus no matter the cost.”

The event was organized by For the Martyrs, a nonprofit organization that “seeks to raise awareness about the crisis of Christian Persecution, advocate for Religious Freedom, and provide aid to victims of persecution around the world.”

Dozens of people gathered at 3 o’clock on the National Mall for a kick-off rally before the Martyrs procession marched through the streets of Washington and concluded with a Night of Prayer for the Persecuted at the Museum of the Bible.

Participants at the Night of Prayer heard from a number of speakers including Peter Burns, policy adviser for Global Christian Relief and Aram Hamparian, Executive Director of the Armenian National Committee of America.

“What we’re really excited about is how many Christians from all denominations come together,” For the Martyrs founder Gia Chacón said in an interview with The Christian Post just prior to the start of the event. “Christian persecution is a human rights issue, so not only are we coming together in prayer as the Body of Christ, but we hope to bring this … crisis to the forefront of the fight for human rights and demand action from the United States government in protecting Christians all over the world.”

“It is so powerful when Christians come together as one voice in prayer and to uplift human dignity and advocate for human rights, Chacón added.”
