Explosions Rock Iran’s Key Oil Hub as U.S. Strikes Reported by Iranian Media, Israeli Source Confirms

(Worthy News) – Explosions were reported Tuesday on Iran’s strategic Kharg Island, according to Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency, as tensions escalate ahead of a U.S. deadline for Tehran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian outlet said blasts shook the island earlier in the day, though it did not provide details on the extent of the damage or specific targets. Kharg Island serves as the backbone of Iran’s oil exports, handling the vast majority of the country’s crude shipments.
Separately, an Israeli source cited by Walla! News confirmed that the United States carried out strikes targeting air defense systems on the island. The report aligns with earlier indications that Washington has been increasing pressure on Iran’s strategic infrastructure.
The reported strikes come as President Donald Trump approaches a key deadline demanding Iran reopen the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy corridor through which roughly one-fifth of the world’s oil supply passes.
Kharg Island has emerged as a central pressure point in the conflict due to its role as Iran’s primary oil export hub. Previous U.S. strikes in March targeted military storage and naval mine facilities on the island, while avoiding direct hits on oil infrastructure. However, recent developments suggest a tightening strategic posture.
Iran has reportedly reinforced defenses around the island in anticipation of further attacks, raising concerns of a broader escalation. Any significant disruption to Kharg’s operations could severely impact Iran’s economy, while also triggering volatility in global energy markets.
The situation continues to develop as regional tensions intensify, with both military and economic stakes rising sharply in the days ahead.
