(Worthy News) – Iran’s newly installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a defiant warning Thursday, declaring that the Islamic republic will safeguard its nuclear and missile capabilities as a “national asset,” even as Donald Trump pushes for a broader agreement to stabilize a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.

In a written statement broadcast on state television, Khamenei signaled a hardened stance against U.S. influence in the region, asserting that American forces have no place in the Persian Gulf. “The only place Americans belong is at the bottom of its waters,” he said, adding that a “new chapter” is unfolding in the region’s history.

The remarks come amid mounting economic and military pressure. A U.S. naval blockade has begun constricting Iran’s oil exports, while Tehran continues to exert control over the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz—a chokepoint through which roughly 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas flows. The disruption has already driven global energy markets higher, with Brent crude prices surging to $126 per barrel.

Iran’s leadership is navigating a volatile moment following the recent assassination of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during a February attack that also reportedly left Mojtaba Khamenei wounded. The transition of power has not softened Tehran’s posture, but rather appears to have intensified its resolve.

Despite escalating tensions, Khamenei framed Iran’s vision for the future in regional terms, calling for a Persian Gulf free of foreign intervention. “By God’s help, the future of this region will belong to its people,” he declared, emphasizing unity among neighboring nations.

Prophetic Perspective: Jeremiah 49 and a Window of Mercy

In the midst of rising global tensions, there is a deeper lens through which these events must be viewed—one firmly rooted in the prophetic Word of God.

In Book of Jeremiah 49, the Lord speaks directly concerning Elam—a region widely understood to encompass significant portions of modern-day Iran—declaring that He would “break the bow of Elam,” a deliberate and symbolic dismantling of its military strength and national confidence. The passage goes even further, revealing that God would “destroy from there king and officials,” pointing not only to weakened power, but to a shaking of leadership itself—a removal and realignment at the highest levels of authority.

What we are witnessing today bears a striking resemblance to this prophetic pattern. Intensifying geopolitical pressure, sweeping economic restrictions, infrastructure vulnerabilities, and deepening global isolation—these are not merely the movements of nations. They are the unmistakable tremors of divine shaking, reaching even into the structures of leadership and governance.

Yet Scripture never abandons us in the shadow of judgment alone. The same prophecy that announces disruption concludes with one of the most breathtaking promises in the ancient text: “In the latter days I will restore the fortunes of Elam.”

The breaking of Elam’s bow is not the final word—it is the opening chapter of transformation. Behind the conflict, beneath the headlines, and beyond the posturing of world powers, the redemptive purposes of God are quietly, sovereignly unfolding. Even as the natural war unfolds before our eyes, a deeper spiritual battle is advancing—one that ultimately leads not to destruction, but to restoration.
