(Worthy News) – Vice President JD Vance said Tuesday that a federal anti-fraud task force launched by President Donald Trump has uncovered widespread abuse within the nation’s food assistance system, including nearly 186,000 deceased individuals allegedly still receiving Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits.

Speaking during a rally in Iowa, Vance said the findings highlight what the administration describes as systemic government waste and abuse.

“We’ve got 186,000 dead people getting SNAP benefits. 186,000 dead Americans getting food stamps right now,” Vance told the crowd. “I actually think that we should take food stamps away from dead people. I am guilty of that. I think that’s a reasonable thing.”

The task force was established in March after Trump signed an executive order aimed at rooting out fraud across federal assistance programs. The administration has made government accountability and reducing waste central themes ahead of the upcoming midterm elections, as economic concerns and inflation continue weighing heavily on voters.

Vance said Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins informed him that investigators also discovered roughly 355,000 individuals allegedly receiving duplicate SNAP benefits.

According to Vance, investigators additionally found cases involving wealthy individuals improperly collecting benefits.

“There are people who have Lamborghinis who currently receive SNAP benefits,” Vance said. “If you are wealthy enough to afford a Lamborghini, then you are wealthy enough to not receive SNAP benefits from the American people.”

The vice president argued the findings reflect broader failures in federal oversight, saying uncovering fraud in Washington is “kind of like fishing in a barrel with dynamite.”

The administration’s crackdown follows heightened scrutiny over alleged fraud schemes tied to federally funded programs in several major cities, including investigations involving daycare centers in Minneapolis that triggered protests and immigration enforcement actions earlier this year.

Republicans have increasingly framed welfare reform and anti-fraud enforcement as part of a larger push to restore public trust in government spending, while critics warn that aggressive reforms could impact vulnerable Americans who legitimately rely on assistance programs.
