WASHINGTON, D.C. (Worthy News) – The Democratic National Committee is facing a deepening financial and leadership crisis ahead of the November midterm elections, prompting prominent voices on the Left to warn that the party’s national organization is becoming dangerously unprepared for the political battle ahead.

Federal Election Commission records show that the DNC ended June with approximately $16.3 million in cash on hand while carrying more than $18.5 million in debts and loans. The Republican National Committee, by comparison, reported roughly $128.5 million in available cash and no outstanding debt, giving Republicans a commanding financial advantage entering the final months of the campaign.

The DNC’s liabilities now exceed its cash reserves by approximately $2.2 million. The committee recently obtained a $15 million loan reportedly secured by its Washington headquarters and other assets, an extraordinary step that has intensified questions about the party’s financial management.

“This is not sustainable,” liberal television host Joe Scarborough wrote Sunday. “Anyone who cares about the Democratic Party—including Ken Martin—would say ‘Enough.’ The DNC is flat broke. This must change now.”

The crisis has placed DNC Chairman Ken Martin under renewed scrutiny. Martin, who took over following President Donald Trump’s 2024 victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris, has struggled to restore confidence among major donors while navigating bitter disputes over the party’s ideological direction and leadership structure.

According to published reports, Martin recently threw his phone toward an aide’s desk during a heated exchange, prompting the employee to file a human-resources complaint. Senior DNC officials were also reportedly asked to sign nondisclosure agreements before attending a private meeting concerning the committee’s financial condition—an unusual demand that reflected growing anxiety over internal leaks.

Party officials have also faced criticism over the delayed release of a review examining Democrats’ defeat in the 2024 presidential election. The long-promised report became a symbol of the party’s unwillingness to confront why working-class voters, religious conservatives and many minority voters continued moving toward Trump and the Republican Party.

The financial gap could carry serious consequences following a recent Supreme Court ruling allowing national parties greater freedom to coordinate spending with congressional candidates. The turmoil extends beyond fundraising. Democrats remain divided between establishment leaders, progressive activists and those who believe the party must return to the concerns of working families. The conflict involving former DNC Vice Chairman David Hogg—who sought to finance primary challenges against Democratic incumbents—further exposed a party struggling to determine who it represents and what message it intends to carry into the future.

Money alone does not determine elections. Yet political contributions frequently reveal something deeper: enthusiasm, confidence and trust. The DNC’s present crisis suggests that many traditional Democratic donors remain unconvinced that the party has learned the lessons of 2024.
