Terrorist Cell ‘Led by Ex-Guantanamo Inmate’ Raided in Spain


MADRID, SPAIN (Worthy News)– Eight people were arrested as part of a terrorist cell group, led by a former Guantanamo Bay inmate, in pre-dawn raids in Madrid, Spain, the Agence France-Presse reported.

Police found the terrorist cell recruited and dispatched jihadists for the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS), the Spain’s interior ministry said in a statement.

This was the third significant raid on terrorist recruitment cells over the past three months. Spain fears terrorist attacks may be carried out by battle-hardened jihadists returning from Syria and Iraq under the influence of al-Qaeda inspired groups.

On March 11, Spain marked the 10 year anniversary  which 191 people were killed as four packed commuter trains were bombed by terrorists.

Over the past 10 years, more than 470 suspected Islamic extremists have been arrested by the Spanish government.
