Clinton Decision on Embryonic Cell Research Labeled “Unethical” and “Immoral”

(AgapePress) – The Clinton Administration yesterday released federal guidelines allowing research using human embryos. A leading pro-life advocate says the idea is unethical and immoral.
President Clinton says the new guidelines could yield positive health benefits. Based on these guidelines, the National Institutes of Health is close to authorizing a plan to fund medical research that relies on the destruction of unborn children. The NIH plan would allow scientists to obtain cells from embryos created by couples during fertility treatments.
American Life League President Judy Brown says this research is immoral because human lives are destroyed.
“Now [they are] claiming that they have the authority to approve the extinction of tiny little boys and girls because they are ‘leftovers in reproductive laboratories’ throughout this country,” Brown says.
“That is immoral, it is unethical, and no matter how they describe it, removing the stem cells from human embryonic children is killing those children…and it’s wrong.”
Brown noted that Republican Presidential candidate George W. Bush opposes the research, and would stop it if elected, and that Vice President Al Gore favors the research despite its destruction of unborn human life. But that fact does not surprise Brown, given Gore’s support for all forms of abortion, including partial birth abortion.
