UN Atomic Agency Confirms Iran Breach of Nuclear Deal, Could Enrich Up to 20% by Friday

(Worthy News) – The UN nuclear watchdog announced Friday that Iran had made good on its threat to enrich uranium above the prescribed limits of the 2015 nuclear accord.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said that Iran was now enriching uranium at 4.5%, as promised, and is able to power its only nuclear power station at Bushehr.
Iranian authorities have promised an even “stronger step” away from the nuclear accord if European signatories to the deal do not find a workaround to Trump’s economic sanctions by September 6th, which the Islamic Republic said Monday could involve enrichment at 20%, a short leap to the 90% needed for a nuclear bomb.
France will host Iran’s deputy foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, for a meeting in Paris Monday following a two-hour phone conversation between French President Emmanuel Macron and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani that an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman said brought “the points of view…closer on many issues.”
Macron has floated the idea of establishing a $15 billion private credit line that will allow customers of Iranian oil to circumvent US sanctions, which Iran has said are the main inhibition to its following through with its 2015 nuclear deal commitment not to enrich uranium above 3.67%.
