Iran rolls out new line of advanced centrifuges

(Worthy News) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani announced Wednesday his country would employ a new line of advanced centrifuges to speed up uranium enrichment, reducing the time it would take the Islamic Republic to acquire a nuclear weapon to under a year.
Rouhani said that Iran is rolling out IR-6 centrifuges, which operate at 10 times the speed of the IR-1s it currently has in use, but that soon it would employ IR-9s, which are capable of enriching uranium 50 times faster than the IR-1 model.
“Americans have no choice but to return from this path, and we will force them to do so with our resistance and steadfastness,” Rouhani said on a trip to Malaysia, reiterating the Iranian conviction that Americans and Israel were behind recent protests.
Ever since leaving the 2015 nuclear deal terms behind, Iran had begun enriching uranium at 4.5%–above the 3.67% limit prescribed by the deal–and stockpiling 1,100 pounds of it in its low-enriched form, surpassing the deal’s 661-pound limit.
