(Worthy News) – A military airstrip in Kenya was attacked by Al Qaida-linked Al Shabab early Sunday, destroying several American aircraft, as US and Kenyan military shored up defenses against the Somalian terrorist organization.
This year the US carried out a record 63 drone strikes against Al Shabab across the border in Somalia from its base at Camp Simba in Kenya, but the attack is the first of the kind by the group in targeting US personnel and assets.
US Africa Command is still seeking to determine whether and how many Americans were killed in the strike, but said so far only “infrastructure and equipment” have been identified in the wreckage.
Two Cessna aircraft, one belonging to Kenya and the other to the US, as well as two US helicopters, were destroyed in the attack.
