Auschwitz visited by ‘most senior delegation’ of Muslim officials yet

by Jordan Hilger, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – A delegation of Muslim leaders visited Auschwitz Thursday ahead of the anniversary of the liberation of the Polish death camp in which over one million Jews were killed, in what Jewish leaders called a ‘groundbreaking’ event.

Mohammed al-Issa, the head of the Muslim World League that is based in Mecca, Saudi Arabia and a former Saudi justice minister, was joined by 25 other prominent Muslim leaders from 28 countries as well as a delegation from the American Jewish Committee.

AJC CEO David Harris called the coterie of Saudi and other Muslims “the most senior delegation of Muslim religious leaders to visit Auschwitz ever.”

A thawing in relations between Israel and the Sunni Arab world, especially Saudi Arabia and the Gulf Arab states, has been noted by some as an unusual development presaging greater economic and military cooperation in the face of threats from Shi’ite states like Iran.
