US Astronauts at International Space Station After Historic Liftoff

(Worthy News) – For the first time a privately built and owned spacecraft successfully carried American astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS) on Sunday, after a historic liftoff.
SpaceX delivered test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken to the orbiting lab a day after they left the same pad in Florida used to send the Apollo astronauts to the moon a half-century ago.
The SpaceX Dragon capsule pulled up to the station and docked automatically, no assistance needed.
That smooth docking was another boost for entrepreneur Elon Musk’s company who dreams of transporting colonies to Mars one day.
Back on earth, on Saturday, thousands had jammed surrounding beaches, bridges, and towns to watch as SpaceX became the world’s first private company to send astronauts into orbit.
Among those watching at Florida’s Kennedy Space Center were U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence.
It ended a nine-year launch drought for the NASA space agency which had been relying on Russia’s help to launch astronauts.
