(Worthy News) –
Russia and Turkey have postponed scheduled talks about their respective and opposing roles in conflicts in Libya and Syria, the Washington Times reported.

In a highly unusual move, a meeting between Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu in Turkey on Sunday was canceled at the last minute, the Jerusalem Post reported.

Supporting opposing sides in the ongoing conflict in Syria, Turkey and Russia agreed to a cease-fire in Idlib on March 5, the Washington Times reports. However, airstrikes in an area held by rebels in the north have recently begun again.

In Libya, Turkey supports the Government of National Accord in the second civil war and is increasingly influential in the country. Russia supports the opposition in Libya. According to the Jerusalem Post, an aim of Sunday’s meeting was to work out issues of “mutual issues in the region.”

In a statement Sunday, the Turkish foreign ministry said the Russia and Turkey “will continue contacts and talks in the period ahead. minister-level talks will be held at a later date.”
