Kushner says Trump and Netanyahu will discuss US sale of advanced fighter jets to UAE

(Worthy News) – US President Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner said Monday that the President and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will at some stage discuss the sale of American F-35 advanced fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates, the Jewish Press reports. The prospect of such a sale has caused speculation in some quarters about whether it would alter the very longstanding US-supported doctrine that, for security purposes, Israel must retain technological military superiority over all other Middle Eastern countries.

Kushner made his remarks to reporters while on a special, first-ever commercial flight from Tel Aviv to Abu Dhabi Monday: a US delegation and an Israeli delegation were flying from Israel for a meeting with UAE officials to further discuss the recent UAE-Israel peace agreement.

“I understood from the meeting with Netanyahu yesterday that he has full confidence in President Trump to do what’s right to protect Israel,” Kushner told reporters.

“We have the Qualitative Military Edge (QME) concept which helps us work with Israel, but with the United Arab Emirates we have 30 years of military relations. I believe that Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump will discuss this soon. I think President Trump has earned the trust of the leadership and the people of Israel,” Kushner added.

Speaking before the plane left Tel Aviv, Head of the Israeli Delegation and of the National Security Council Meir Ben-Shabbat told reporters: “ Our goal is to achieve a joint working plan to advance relations in a very broad range of areas: Tourism, aviation, innovation, science, technology, health, economic matters and many others. This morning, the traditional blessing ‘go in peace’ receives special meaning for us.”
