Supreme Court allows North Carolina to accept ballots up to nine days after election
(Worthy News) – The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that North Carolina can receive and count ballots that officials receive up to nine days after Election Day.
The State Board of Elections said in September that it would move the deadline for accepting ballots back from Nov. 3 to Nov. 12. Ballots still must be mailed by Tuesday in order to be counted, but the extension relaxes concerns that delays from the U.S. Postal Service would lead to ballots going uncounted.
At issue in the North Carolina case was whether the State Board of Elections had the authority to change the deadline without a law passed by the state’s Legislature. [ Source: Washington Examiner (Read More…) ]
