(Worthy News) – Senate Republicans have blocked creating a bipartisan panel to study the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol housing Congress.

The U.S. Senate vote was 54-35 — short of the 60 options needed to consider a House-passed bill to form a 10-member commission split between the two parties.

Republican senators said they believe the commission would be used against them politically. And former President Donald J. Trump had it called a “Democrat trap” and a political witch-hunt.

Hundreds were wounded in the January 6 clashes when rioters claiming to be Trump supporters stormed the halls of Congress.

The riots followed a protest against what Trump believed were rigged presidential elections.
