Russia Extends Troop Deployment in Belarus Indefinitely Amid Stepped Up Fighting in Eastern Ukraine

(Worthy News) – Russia will extend its military deployment in Belarus indefinitely in response to renewed fighting in eastern Ukraine, the Belarusian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday – the day the joint maneuvers were supposedly to have ended.

Moscow and Minsk have decided to prolong their exercises because of “the increase in military activity near the external borders of the Union State and the aggravation of the situation in the Donbass,” Belarusian Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin said in a Telegram post.

He accused the U.S. of exacerbating regional tensions by sending weapons to neighboring Ukraine and Poland. “In Europe, there is a very strong smell of gunpowder,” he wrote. “It is being purposefully pushed towards war.” [ Source: CNS News (Read More…) ]
