(Worthy News) – The United Nations reported this week that Iran is continuing to carry out “chilling” executions on citizens suspected of involvement in nationwide anti-government protests that were sparked last year after young Kurdish woman Mahsa Amini died in police custody in September, i24News reports.

In the wake of a violent, often deadly crackdown on protestors by Iran’s Islamic regime the UN Human Rights Council voted in November to conduct a special high-level inquiry into what was going on, i24News reports.

On Wednesday, Sara Hossain, chair of the independent international fact-finding mission, said in a statement that the Amini family has yet to receive justice for the death of Mahsa, who had been arrested and detained by Tehran’s ‘morality police’ for not wearing her hijab correctly.

“The lack of transparency around the investigations into her death is further evidenced by the arrest and continued detention of the two women journalists, Nilufar Hamedi and Elahe Mohammadi, who first reported on the event,” Hossain reported.

The UN mission went on to report that Iran is executing and imprisoning its own citizens for protesting an oppressive violent regime. “Harsh punishments continue to be meted out to those involved in the protests, including for exercising rights protected under international human rights law,” Hossain said. “Most chilling, seven men have already been executed following hasty proceedings marred by serious allegations of fair trial violations, including confessions extracted under torture.”
