(Worthy News) – As Israeli forces continue the fight to dismantle the Hamas terror organization in Gaza, Israel’s government has agreed to allow 100 trucks into the coastal enclave each day, a US official told The Times of Israel (TOI) on Monday.

The agreement followed intense diplomatic discussions led by the United States and in response to a warning from the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) that Gaza civilians were facing unprecedented humanitarian needs,” TOI reports.

According to Israel’s military liaison to the Palestinians COGAT, as of Monday, just 171 trucks entered Gaza through the Rafah crossing on Egypt’s border since Israel began bombing Hamas targets in the Strip, TOI reports. The bombardment began in response to the October 7 barbaric massacre of 1,400 mostly civilian Israeli men, women, and children at the hands of Hamas terrorists.

The aid to enter Gaza includes water, food and medical supplies, TOI reports. COGAT stated Monday that 39 trucks of humanitarian aid had entered Gaza, six fewer than the tally presented by the US for the day prior. The US State Department said its officials hoped the number of trucks entering would increase daily. “This first phase that we talked to the Israelis about is trying to get it up to about 100 a day,” White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said in a statement.

“We’ve amped up a lot of humanitarian assistance. I know you’re going to see a big increase in humanitarian assistance in the next two or three days,” Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer added during a foreign press briefing. Before October 7, around 500 trucks of aid were entering the Strip daily.
