(Worthy News) – In response to the Ukraine war and threats by NATO, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree last Friday to increase troop numbers by 15%, bringing the total number of active personnel to over 1.3 Million Russian troops.

The Russian Defense Ministry asserted that this move was a response to heightened threats resulting from NATO expansion and the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Numerous analysts highlight the recent decree, indicating that Russia has experienced a significant number of casualties throughout the eighteen months of the Ukraine War.  However, Russia has not disclosed official figures regarding its loss of life.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced that the troop numbers would be incrementally raised through a recruitment drive, ruling out mobilization or changes to conscription.

“The increase in the number of servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation is being implemented in stages, based on citizens who express a desire to undergo military service under a contract,” according to a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry.

Last Thursday, Ukrainian President Zelensky urged for reinforcements and enhanced defenses along the country’s front line with Russia as the winter approaches and temperatures often fall below freezing in the region.

In the past year, NATO has expanded to incorporate Finland, a country with an extensive border with Russia. Additionally, Sweden has applied to join the alliance.
