BELFAST (Worthy News) – Christians in Northern Ireland, once known for violence and religious divisions, are planning a new March for Jesus after thousands attended the event over the weekend.

Organizers said up to 10,000 believers filled the streets of Belfast on Saturday, August 23, “waving flags, singing and praying in unity” during what they described as a peaceful and celebratory gathering.

Carrying flags and singing hymns, crowds set off from Ormeau Park on Saturday, August 23, and walked through the capital before concluding at City Hall with worship, prayer, and testimonies led by musician Brian Houston.

Reverend John Ahern, chief organizer, said the march drew “many families and children” and created “a wonderful sense of peace and unity.” He told the Christian Daily International website that the Police Service of Northern Ireland reported no problems.

Bishop David McClay of the Church of Ireland, Reverend Jim Rae, former Methodist Church of Ireland, and Reverend John Ashe of Journey Church, who offered prayers covering issues ranging from family life and government to addiction, brokenness, and revival.

GOSPEL INVITATION

Ahern said several people responded to a Gospel invitation to turn to faith in Christ and noted many participants planned to attend a similar event in Dublin on September 27. “Unity doesn’t mean uniformity,” he added.

“The differences in the Body of Christ exist, but it is significant when God’s people come together in unity to pray and worship Christ,” he said, referring to believers of different denominations.

Organizers stressed the March for Jesus was open to Christians and non-Christians alike, with the aim of “taking Christ public” in a society marked by addiction, fear, and prejudice.

“There is a whole generation that needs to be reached for Christ,” Ahern said.
