WASHINGTON / TUCSON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Donald J. Trump said Wednesday he has ordered federal law enforcement agencies to assist local authorities in the search for Nancy Guthrie, the missing mother of American television journalist Savannah Guthrie, as the investigation entered its fourth day.

Savannah Guthrie is a co-anchor of Today, a flagship morning news and talk program broadcast nationwide in the United States by NBC, one of the country’s largest television networks.

Trump said he had directed all relevant federal agencies to support the investigation and later spoke directly with Guthrie to express sympathy and support for her family, according to U.S. officials.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing on Sunday after she failed to attend church services in the unincorporated Catalina Foothills area north of Tucson, a city of about 550,000 residents in the U.S. state of Arizona. Tucson is located roughly 100 kilometers (60 miles) north of the Mexican border.

Family members last saw Guthrie at approximately 9:45 p.m. Saturday when they dropped her off at her home, authorities said.

The case is being led by the Pima County Sheriff’s Office, which covers the Tucson metropolitan area. Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators believe Guthrie may have been taken during the night and are treating the case as a possible kidnapping or abduction.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has joined the investigation, along with roughly 100 local detectives. Authorities said DNA confirmed to belong to Guthrie was collected at the home, though officials have not confirmed whether it was blood.

Investigators are also examining data from Guthrie’s heart pacemaker after its monitoring signal reportedly stopped early Sunday, according to officials briefed on the case.

NO SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

In a statement Wednesday, the sheriff’s office said no suspect or person of interest has been identified. Detectives are continuing to interview anyone who may have had contact with Guthrie and are working closely with her family.

Authorities said they have received hundreds of tips but have no credible evidence that the disappearance was a targeted crime.

Sheriff Nanos said investigators face challenges due to limited surveillance footage in the residential area, citing landscaping, poor street lighting, and technical issues with security cameras at the home. Detectives are also reviewing footage from neighboring properties, though officials cautioned that usable video may be limited.

Officials said Guthrie has limited mobility and relies on daily medication but does not suffer from dementia. “She is sharp as a tack,” Nanos said.

“We have nothing else to go on but the belief that she is here, she’s alive, and we want to save her,” he told U.S. media.

RANSOM REPORTS UNDER REVIEW

Law enforcement agencies confirmed they are investigating unverified reports of possible ransom notes sent to media organizations referencing Guthrie. Authorities said all such information is being reviewed and shared with the FBI.

As the search continues, Savannah Guthrie has remained in Arizona and has stepped away from her broadcasting duties. NBC Sports announced she will not travel to Italy as planned for coverage of the Olympic Games. Veteran broadcaster Mary Carillo will fill in during the opening ceremony alongside sportscaster Terry Gannon.

NBC Sports said its thoughts are with Guthrie and her family during the search.
