TUCSON, USA (Worthy News) – Authorities in the U.S. state of Arizona detained a suspect Tuesday in connection with the reported abduction of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of American television host Savannah Guthrie, as the high-profile investigation entered its ninth day.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said deputies “detained a subject during a traffic stop” who is being questioned in connection with the case. Officials have not released the individual’s identity pending further investigation.

Nancy Guthrie had not been located as of late Tuesday, and authorities have not confirmed her condition. Federal and local law enforcement agencies remain actively involved.

SURVEILLANCE FOOTAGE AND RANSOM REPORTS

Law enforcement earlier released surveillance footage showing a masked individual near Nancy Guthrie’s residence around the time she was reported missing. Officials have not confirmed whether the person seen in the footage is the detained suspect.

Several U.S. media outlets have reported that a Bitcoin wallet was allegedly created to receive a ransom demand said to total up to $6 million. However, authorities have not publicly confirmed the amount or provided details regarding any cryptocurrency account.

Officials have confirmed that investigators are reviewing communications believed to be linked to the case, including reported ransom demands, but have not verified specific figures.

Several U.S. media outlets have also reported that the detained suspect was stopped near the U.S.-Mexico border, though authorities have not provided full confirmation of that detail.

FAMILY APPEALS AND NATIONAL ATTENTION

Savannah Guthrie and her family have made multiple public appeals on social media, expressing hope that Nancy is still alive.

In one message shared online, Guthrie wrote: “We believe she is still alive. Bring her home.”

In a separate video appeal released alongside her siblings, the family said: “We received your message, and we understand. We beg you now to return our mother to us so we can celebrate with her. This is the only way we will have peace.”

Authorities have urged anyone with relevant information to contact investigators.

The case has drawn national attention as officials continue searching for Nancy Guthrie and seek to determine whether the detained individual is formally linked to the reported abduction.
