PALM BEACH, USA (Worthy News) – A man carrying a shotgun and a gas can was shot and killed early Sunday after breaching the inner security perimeter of U.S. President Donald J. Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, authorities said.
Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw described the incident during a press briefing. “At 1:30 this morning, the security detail detected that an individual had made his way into the inner perimeter of Mar-a-Lago,” Bradshaw told reporters. “A deputy and two Secret Service agents on the detail went to that area to investigate.”
He added that, “They confronted a white male who was carrying a gas can and a shotgun. He was ordered to drop those two pieces of equipment. At that time, he put down the gas can and raised the shotgun to a shooting position.”
The sheriff confirmed that “At that point, the deputy and the two Secret Service agents fired their weapons and neutralized the threat. He is deceased at the scene.”
The man killed was identified by investigators as 21-year-old Austin Tucker Martin, according to a source who spoke anonymously because the official was not authorized to discuss details of the investigation publicly.
FBI INVESTIGATING
Bradshaw said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is leading the investigation, with local authorities assisting.
At the time of the incident, President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were not at the Florida residence. Officials said they were in Washington, D.C.
The breach comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding the president. During the 2024 election campaign, Trump survived two assassination attempts, including a shooting at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where a gunman opened fire, and a separate incident in which a suspect was apprehended near one of his properties while allegedly armed.
Security around the president has since been reinforced, with the U.S. Secret Service maintaining expanded protective measures at campaign events and private residences.
There was no immediate public reaction from the White House. The Secret Service said it is cooperating fully with the FBI investigation. Additional details are expected as authorities continue their review of the circumstances surrounding the security breach.
