KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Ukraine says a barrage of Russian drone attacks has killed at least four people and injured many others, casting a shadow over Easter celebrations in the war-torn country.

In the southern port city of Odesa, rescuers worked through the night under floodlights, pulling survivors from the rubble of a damaged apartment building struck during the attacks.

There were emotional scenes as emergency workers carefully freed a toddler trapped between broken concrete and debris.

However, not everyone could be saved. Officials said two women and a two-year-old child were among those killed.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy explained that at least eleven people were hospitalized, including a pregnant woman and two children, the youngest less than a year old

MORE DEATHS REPORTED

Elsewhere, in the southern city of Kherson, Russian shelling reportedly killed an elderly woman and injured three others, aged 86, 79, and 44.

Authorities said the wounded suffered shrapnel injuries, concussions, and other trauma.

In Nikopol, at least seven people were injured in drone and artillery strikes, with one person in critical condition.

The attacks damaged residential buildings and a pharmacy.

Further east, in Kharkiv, regional officials reported that drone strikes injured three people.

NATION WITHOUT PEACE

President Zelenskyy lamented that there was “barely a moment of peace” for Ukrainians during Easter, one of the most important celebrations in the Christian calendar.

Over the past week alone Russia launched more than 2,800 attack drones, nearly 1,350 glide bombs, and over 40 missiles of various types against Ukraine.

The United Nations says that since Russia’s full-scale invasion began more than four years ago, thousands of civilians have been killed as urban areas repeatedly came under attack.

While official figures speak of more than 15,000 civilian deaths, the overall human toll of the war is believed to be far higher, with estimates suggesting up to two million casualties on both sides, many of them on the front lines of Europe’s deadliest conflict since the Second World War.

Ukraine’s authorities noticed that the renewed violence comes at a time when Christians around the world celebrate Easter, a feast centered Christ’s resurrection and His triumph over death. Yet this year, for many in Ukraine, prayers have been overshadowed by the noise of warfare.
