Pentagon Seeks $4.5 Billion to Rebuild Tomahawk Missile Stockpile Amid Rising Global Tensions

(Worthy News) – The Pentagon is preparing to request approximately $4.5 billion in fiscal year 2027 to replenish its stockpile of Tomahawk cruise missile, highlighting growing pressure on U.S. military resources after sustained global operations.

According to a Bloomberg Government report, the move follows heavy use of the long-range missiles in recent conflicts, including operations tied to the war with Iran, where hundreds have reportedly been deployed. The surge in usage has raised concerns within defense leadership about maintaining readiness for future high-intensity conflicts.

Tomahawk missiles remain a cornerstone of U.S. strike capability, enabling precision attacks from long distances. However, with each missile costing roughly $2 million, rebuilding stockpiles represents a significant financial commitment.

Defense officials say the funding request is part of a broader effort to restore America’s munitions reserves and strengthen the defense industrial base after years of underinvestment and escalating geopolitical threats. Ongoing commitments abroad—including deterrence efforts involving China and Russia—have further strained existing inventories.

The Pentagon is also pushing for multiyear procurement contracts with defense manufacturers to accelerate production and prevent future shortages. Military leaders warn that without sustained investment, the United States risks falling behind in an era where advanced munitions are rapidly consumed.

The proposed 2027 defense budget is expected to include expanded funding not only for missile replenishment but also for aircraft, missile defense systems, and other critical capabilities.

Supporters of the increase argue the effort is long overdue, emphasizing that rebuilding stockpiles and restoring manufacturing strength are essential to preserving U.S. military dominance and ensuring national security in an increasingly unstable world.
