FAISALABAD, PAKISTAN (Worthy News) – A Christian family’s home was reportedly set on fire following a local dispute in eastern Pakistan, highlighting ongoing concerns about the safety of minority communities in the Muslim-majority nation.

The incident occurred Sunday in Chak 437 G/B, a rural village in Tehsil Samundri, part of Faisalabad district in the country’s populous Punjab province.

Pastor Imran Amanat, leader of advocacy group LEAD Ministries, told Worthy News that he learned the violence erupted after an argument between children of the Christian family and Muslim neighbors.

DISPUTE ESCALATES INTO VIOLENCE

Two sons of the affected family were injured during the confrontation, according to community sources. One of them was already living with a disability affecting his arm, Christians said.

“Hanoch Masih, the visually impaired head of the family, said the altercation occurred in the evening when his children became involved in a dispute with neighboring youths,” LEAD Ministries said.

He alleged that later the same group returned in retaliation and set the family’s house ablaze before fleeing the scene. Footage obtained by Worthy News showed anxious people watching as the fire caused severe damage, leaving the family displaced.

Some tried in vain to throw buckets of water at the rapidly spreading flames, Worthy News observed.

CONCERNS OVER MINORITY

Police, including senior officers, arrived at the scene and brought the situation under control, but no arrests had been reported by Monday, according to initial accounts.

Authorities have not yet issued an official statement regarding the alleged attackers or possible charges.

The incident has renewed concerns among residents and rights advocates over the protection of religious minorities in rural Pakistan, where Christians form a small but longstanding community.

Pakistan ranks 7th on the World Watch List compiled by advocacy group Open Doors, tracking persecution of Christians worldwide.

PAKISTAN’S RELIGIOUS PRESSURE

LEAD Ministries said it “called for prayers for the affected family,” adding that it continues to document incidents involving Christians through advocacy and outreach programs, including church planting, women’s empowerment, and pastoral care initiatives.

Open Doors linked the ranking to the Islamic nation’s strict blasphemy laws, forced conversions, and frequent violence against Christians and other minorities.

Christians make up roughly 1.6 to 2 percent of Pakistan’s population of more than 240 million people, amounting to several million believers nationwide, according to estimates from advocacy groups.
