KAMPALA (Worthy News) – Church leaders in central Uganda have expressed shock after an evangelist was reportedly killed following a Gospel outreach event.

Alfred Kitenga was beaten and stabbed at about 9:30 p.m. on April 9 along the Northern Bypass in the Kawaala area of Wakiso District, according to Christians familiar with the case.

The attack occurred as Kitenga and his wife, Anna Grace Nabirye, were returning home after preaching in the Namungoona area of Kampala, the capital, Christian news agency Morning Star News reported.

Nabirye said the couple accepted a ride from men who claimed to be motorcycle taxi drivers and fellow Christians who had attended the event. “We believed them because they said they were fellow believers who had listened to the message,” she said.

During the journey, the riders diverted to another route, and additional men later appeared, she added.

VIOLENT ASSAULT

“What followed was sudden and violent,” Nabirye recalled.

She said the attackers beat them and fatally stabbed her husband before leaving her near her home.

Church leaders later found Kitenga’s body along a roadside and alerted police, who took it for postmortem examination.

“This is a painful loss for the Body of Christ,” a local church leader stressed.

Authorities have launched an investigation. On Wednesday, no suspects had been arrested, and no motive was officially confirmed

SAFETY CONCERNS

The killing has raised concerns among Christian groups about the safety of evangelists, particularly during evening outreach.

Some church leaders are urging greater caution and additional security measures for evangelism teams.
