Egypt Closes One Church, Blocks Worship at Another

breaking world news egypt

(Worthy News) - Authorities have closed a church that serves three villages in Upper Egypt on the pretext that area Muslims object to it – one of at least 15 Christian worship sites shuttered in the bishopric of Minya, sources said.

Coptic Orthodox Bishop of Minya Anba Makarios spent weeks appealing to security officials to re-open the Virgin Mary and St. Paula Church in Minya Governorate’s Kedwan village, which was closed in July. When those talks failed, the bishop issued a statement denying security agency assertions that area Muslims object to the 1,300-member church, saying they live peaceably with Coptic Christians and that any opposition comes from a small extremist faction.

“There is actually no disagreements or disputes between the Copts and Muslims,” he said. “He among them who opposes [opening the church], if any is found, gives the excuse of the necessity to obtain a security clearance. Regardless of whether these may be right in their opposition or not, the authorities instead of responding by pointing out that this is the prerogative of the state institutions, or by stating that allowing prayer is a legal right, affirm prevention of prayer! In doing so, they underscore at the same time that the opposing factions are right in their reasoning.” [ Source (Read More...) ]

Hebrews 13:3  Remember those who are in bonds, as bound with them; and those who are ill-treated, since you are also in the body.

Revelation 6:9-11  And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:  And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?  And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

  1. See? Using the term "church" had us fooled that this was Egyptian persecution of Christians. The church is a Virgin Mary and also a St Paula? Prostestants need to stop using the term Church as synonomous with Christianity because the Catholic/Orthodox groups aren't going to. In fact, they invented it and, well, look at a Tyndale Bible, there's a reason he did it right in that one, which came even before Luther's.

It's heresy to consider the (true) Church even having anything to do with Christ/Messiah. The name "church" fools us all.

  2. The emerged anti-Christian attitude in Egypt is very alarming. But the Church will survive any attack, the Church is the body of the living JESUS CHRIST.

The Roman empire tried to wipe them off, but they were wiped off from history. Likewise any empire tried to erase Christianity will be regretting. The Communist leaders both in Russia and China tried too hard to destroy Christianity, but their world communism was crashed in 75 years duration, but Christianity for the last 2000 years is getting stronger through all the persecution.

  3. "the Church" will not survive any attack. Reality has already proven that year after decades after century after millennium now. Protestants had no business continuing with using that term for their groups. Now, we can not decipher even Christian Persecution news for all "the church" in the reports. The world is not "the church" and the "Unchurched" only. Most real followers of Y'shua HaMashiach (Jesus, the Christ) do not attended or fellowship with any "church."

The Church is ruled by a Pope. Other "churches" are recognized by the Pope, and they are all Catholic.

What will survive, and can not be taken away, is Christianity by that name and by other names, such as (Messianic) Nazarene, Messianic, assembly, havurah, fellowship, congregation, etc. in the various languages. Even synagogue was used in the NT once to denote a place of (Christian) worship. All it meant back then was "meeting place" as it's a Greek word, not hebrew.

"The church" is not synonymous with Christianity, that's catholic, and I do mean Catholic with the capital C, teaching. It leaves out the Messianic movement entirely as well as most Hebraic Roots, who believe in and follow The Root of Jesse, another of Jesus' names. Think on that.

This article talks about the "bishopric" somewhere. That's a Catholic (aka Orthodox) idea. It came about from the same as when (Catholic/Orthodox) Latin translators put "priest" in for every pastor/leader term in the NT. "Church" is an invention of the Catholic's way back in 400 AD approx.
