(Worthy News) – The CEO of social media giant Twitter has told a Senate Committee that his company does not have a policy against Holocaust denial user content, the Times of Israel reported Wednesday.

Appearing before the Senate Commerce Committee this week, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey described Holocaust denial content as “misleading information” but said Twitter does not have a policy against “that type” of misinformation. Dorsey’s answer contradicted a statement earlier this month that Twitter would ban Holocaust denial content.

During hours-long questioning, Colorado Senator Cory Gardner said Dorsey must explain why Twitter had flagged or deleted tweets by President Trump but had left virulently anti-Semitic tweets from Iranian dictator Ayatollah Ali Khamenei up on the platform.

“If somebody denied the Holocaust happened, it’s not misinformation?” Gardner asked Dorsey. “It’s misleading information,” Dorsey replied. “But we don’t have a policy against that type of misleading information.”

“We have a policy against misinformation in three categories, which are manipulated media, public health, specifically COVID, and civic integrity, election interference and voter suppression. We do not have a policy or enforcement for any other types of misleading information that you’re mentioning,” Dorsey went on to say.

Given that Dorsey’s response apparently contradicted Twitter’s recent announcement that it would ban Holocaust denial content, the Times of Israel asked the company for clarification. In a statement to the Times, a Twitter spokesperson said: “[We] strongly condemn anti-Semitism, and hateful conduct has absolutely no place on our service… We also have a robust Glorification of Violence Policy in place and take action against content that glorifies or praises historical acts of violence and genocide, including the Holocaust.”
