(Worthy News) – Ugandan evangelist Charles Kamya was beaten unconscious and left for dead in Kampala, Uganda last week by Islamic extremists enraged at his preaching the Gospel, Morning Star News (MSN) reports. Although Muslims are a small minority in Uganda, Christians have come under increasing attack by Islamic extremists there.

On Saturday 29 January, Kamya was in the Bwaise area of Kampala, having just left an open-air debate about Islam and Christianity he had participated in, when two men stopped him in his car, MSN said. “I stopped my car only to be ambushed by six other Muslims in Islamic attire who resurfaced from the bush at around midday,” Kamya told Morning Star News from his hospital bed.The attackers told Kamya that he had been “terrorizing” their religion, and would therefore be “meeting Allah” that day.

“Some beat me badly while others cut me with some objects, and I lost a lot of blood as they pulled me out of my car and threw me out,” Kamya told MSN.
Kamya lost consciousness and was found by passersby who called the police.

“[The police] arrived immediately and saved my life,” Kamya said. “The attackers did not damage my car or take anything inside the car. They only wanted to destroy my life.”

Christianity is legal in Uganda, where religious freedom, including evangelism, is protected under the constitution. Nevertheless, MSN said in its report: “The assault [on Kamya] was the latest of many instances of persecution of Christians in Uganda that Morning Star News has documented.”
