WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the U.S. Supreme Court for overturning Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion nationwide, saying it took back America 150 years.

Biden, a self-professing Catholic, stressed the ruling resulted from a changing Supreme Court.“It’s a realization of extreme ideology and a tragic error of the Supreme Court, in my view.”

President Biden said because of the ruling, the health of women in the United States “is now at risk.” He added: “Today, the Supreme Court expressly took away a constitutional right for the American people. They didn’t limit it; they simply took it away.”

Biden said he’s directing the Department of Health and Human Services to ensure contraception is available to all Americans, even as states seek to restrict them.

Yet, the president made clear he condemned “acts of violence” in a nod to critics who said he had not done enough to speak out against violent threats against Supreme Court justices.

SPEAKER ANGRY

House of Representatives Speaker Democrat Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat, also denounced the Supreme Court decision in earlier remarks.

She said a “Republican-controlled Supreme Court” has achieved that party’s “dark and extreme goal of ripping away women’s right to make their own reproductive health decisions.”

“This cruel ruling is outrageous and heart-wrenching. But make no mistake: the rights of women and all Americans are on the ballot this November,” she added.

The United Nations called the Supreme Court decision ending a nationwide right to an abortion a “huge blow” to human rights.

However, crowds of anti-abortion activists, who had gathered outside the courthouse for days, erupted in cheers as news of the ruling spread.

Friday’s historic ruling will be one of the signal legacies of President Donald J. Trump, who vowed to name justices who would overrule Roe. All three of his appointees were in the majority in the 6-to-3 ruling.
