Biden Under Fire Over Abortion Remarks

WASHINGTON (Worthy News) – U.S. President Joe Biden faces condemnation from leading Republicans “protecting the unborn” after he urged Congress to end “extreme abortion bans.”

Biden, a self-declared Catholic, also raised eyebrows among anti-abortion Christians as he used Tuesday’s State of the Union address to warn that he would veto any proposed federal abortion restrictions.

He urged Congress “to codify” the 1973 Roe v. Wade ruling recognizing women’s constitutional right to abortion, which the U.S. Supreme Court recently overturned.

“Congress must restore the right the Supreme Court took away last year and codify Roe v. Wade to protect every woman’s constitutional right to choose,” Biden said. “The Vice President and I are doing everything we can to protect access to reproductive health care and safeguard patient privacy. But already, more than a dozen states are enforcing extreme abortion bans.”

After the reversal of Roe, multiple Republican-dominated state legislatures enacted bills that limited the procedure to the first trimester or the point when a fetal heartbeat is detected.

Biden pledged to veto any federal abortion ban that advances through Congress, where Republicans have a majority in the bicameral legislature’s House of Representatives.

However, the influential anti-abortion group Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America said Biden’s claim that Republicans want such a ban under all circumstances is “pure disinformation.”

UNBORN CHILDREN UNPROTECTED

“What Republicans propose is that Congress debates and passes consensus protections for unborn children,” the group stressed in published remarks. “Democrats don’t want to have this debate because they support NO protections for the unborn. Not even from painful late-term abortions or even providing care for babies born alive after attempted abortions.”

Senator Lindsey Graham, a Republican, has proposed a nationwide ban on abortions after 15 weeks, modeling the standard of several Republican states.

“I think we should have a law at the federal level that would say, after 15 weeks, no abortion on demand except in cases of rape, incest or to save the life of the mother,” Graham said while unveiling the legislation in September. “And that should be where America is at.”

Conservative commentators said House Democrats revealed just “how extreme they’re willing to go on the abortion issue.” Critics noted that Democrats almost unanimously opposed a bill mandating that medical care be administered to infants who survive botched abortions.

Only House Democrat, Henry Cuellar of Texas, voted for the legislation with Republicans. All House Democrats but three rejected a House resolution to condemn recent attacks “on pro-life facilities” groups and churches.

Arkansas State Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders also lashed out at Biden’s pro-abortion State of the Union speech. Sanders, at 40, the youngest governor in the nation, claimed that Biden “surrender[ed] his presidency to a woke mob that can’t even tell you what a woman is.”

The recently inaugurated Sanders, the daughter of former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, added: “Whether Joe Biden believes this madness or is simply too weak to resist it, his administration has been completely hijacked by the radical Left. The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left. The choice is between normal or crazy.”

WOKE FANTASIES

She also said the Biden administration seems “more interested in woke fantasies than the hard reality Americans face every day.”

Besides lashing out at abortion restrictions, the 80-year-old Biden touted his economic track record and victories in infrastructure spending, clean energy, and prescription drug pricing.

He also warned China against threatening US sovereignty after an alleged Chinese spy was shot down days after flying over the U.S.

Yet Sanders argued that the president “inherited the fastest economic recovery on record” and “the most secure border in history” from his predecessor Donald J. Trump.

He also took over “cheap, abundant, home-grown energy,” “fast-rising wages,” and “a rebuilt military,” she added.

However, Democrats “destroyed it all” over the last two years, Sanders claimed.
