KYIV/BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Ukraine has warned of increased military activity along its border with Belarus, raising concerns about a possible escalation in the more than four-year-long war triggered by Russia’s full-scale invasion.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said ahead of a European Political Community meeting in Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, that there had been “unusual activity” and “minor provocations” observed on the Belarusian side of the frontier.

“We are closely documenting everything and keeping the situation under control. If necessary, we will react,” Zelenskyy said, adding that Ukraine remains ready to defend its people and sovereignty.

He also warned that anyone drawn into aggressive actions against Ukraine should understand the consequences.

Belarus, a close ally of Russia, has increased military activity in recent weeks, according to Ukrainian intelligence. Reports suggest infrastructure has been built toward the border, and artillery positions have been established. Belarus previously allowed its territory to be used as a staging ground for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.

FIGHTING CONTINUES IN THE EAST

As concerns grow along the northern border, fighting continues across Ukraine’s eastern and southern regions.

Ukrainian authorities say Russian forces are advancing toward the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region, which forms part of a key defensive line. Additionally, Russia’s Defense Ministry has claimed the capture of the village of Myropillia in the northern Sumy region, though Ukrainian forces say they continue to hold their positions there.

In the Sumy region, officials reported that a Russian airstrike near the town of Krolevets injured six people, including two seriously.

Earlier, at least two people were killed and eight others wounded in drone attacks on minibusses in the southern city of Kherson, according to local authorities.

UKRAINE SEEKS STABILITY, EU BACKING

Despite the ongoing violence, Ukraine says it continues to respond to attacks and defend its territory. Zelenskyy reported strikes on Russian-linked energy infrastructure, including oil tankers near the Black Sea port of Novorossiysk.

At the same time, Kyiv is seeking closer ties with the European Union.

Zelenskyy said there had been progress in talks with Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia, which had previously been among the EU member states hesitant about Ukraine’s bid for membership.

The comments come while the war continues to affect millions of people, raising broader concerns about stability in Europe.
