Russia and China Oppose ‘Unilateral’ Moves By US On Iran

(Worthy News) – Russia and China are concocting a plan to circumvent US sanctions on Iran.

In early May Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese State Councilor Wang Yi met in Sochi to discuss ways to replace the US petrodollar with the Chinese yuan, euro, and Russian ruble, in a bid to effectively nullify penalties on countries buying Iranian oil.

A later summit between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, on June 14, 2019, in which Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also participated, emphasized the need for “re-shaping the world order” perceived to be suffering under the burden of American hegemony, in the words of Russian and Chinese officials.

“The parties emphasize the need to protect their mutually beneficial commercial and economic cooperation with Iran and firmly oppose the imposition of unilateral sanctions by any states,” read a statement from the conference according to Russian Interfax news agency.

Questionable support of Iran by Russia and China dates back to the Islamic Revolution of 1979, when China was one of the few countries to supply the burgeoning theocracy with weapons. Russia, for its part, helped to build Iran’s Bushehr nuclear facility in 2015.
