Ukraine Discovers ‘Tortured Bodies’ In Recaptured Territories

KYIV (Worthy News) – Ukrainian authorities say they are finding bodies of civilians that show signs of torture left behind by Russian troops in
the recently recaptured territories of Kharkiv.
The announcement came as Moscow acknowledged Monday that Ukrainian forces outnumbered Russians by eight to one in last week’s counter-attack in the Kharkiv region.
Russia’s top occupation official Vitaly Ganchev told Russian television that Ukraine’s army had taken villages in the north and broken through to the Russian border.
Ukraine claims it has regained control over 3,000 sq km (1,158 sq miles) of territory in a potential breakthrough in the 200-day war.
Yet as they enter the recaptured areas, Ukrainian forces are finding the human remains of civilians showing signs of torture, said Inna Sovsun, a member of the Ukrainian parliament.
She reports war crimes discovered after Ukrainian forces retook Bucha outside Kyiv, the capital, earlier this year.
Reporters saw Friday that police exhumed two bodies that bore signs of torture in Hrakove, one of more than 20 towns and villages that Kyiv said its forces retook in the past days.
In recent months Russian soldiers allegedly forced local men to bury the bodies, which wore civilian clothing. Moscow has denied wrongdoing and calls its invasion of Ukraine “a special military operation.”
