Burned black churches in Louisiana raise $1.8M after Notre Dame fire

The devastating fire at Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris led to an immediate outpouring of donations and an ambitious pledge by the French president to rebuild within five years. But a continent away, the blaze also spurred more than $1.8 million in donations to rebuild three historically black churches burned in suspected hate crimes in Louisiana.

Culprit in Series of Black Church Arsons Charged with Hate Crimes

Holden Matthews, the 21 year-old culprit in a series of Louisiana church arsons, was charged with three additional hate crimes Monday, in addition to the three prior counts of simple arson of a religious building with which he was charged at his arrest on April 11th.

Boko Haram Attacks Christian Village, Destroys Church

International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that earlier today, around 6:00 a.m., Boko Haram insurgents launched an attack on Ngurhlavu village of Lassa in Askira-Uba local council area of southern Borno State. Most of the villagers were able to flee into the bush, but the insurgents burned down six homes, destroyed the EYN Church (Church of the Brethren), killed one person, and abducted two sisters, Stella Ibrahim and Plungwa Ibrahim.
