(Worthy News) – Following a massive outpouring of financial support this year, Christian persecution watchdog Open Doors USA is set to distribute 100,000 Bibles to persecuted believers around the world, Faithwire reports. Open Doors has been smuggling Bibles into countries that are hostile to Christianity since 1955.

In a statement to Faithwire, Open Doors President David Curry expressed gratitude that American believers have offered “the greatest outpouring of support” for Bible distribution that the organization has seen so far. “The need is greater than ever, and it’s encouraging to see Americans rise to meet that challenge,” Curry said. “It will make a tremendous difference in the lives of persecuted Christians around the world.”

Where possible, Open Doors ships the Bibles into the designated countries, and otherwise takes them in by hand, ICC reports. In some cases, Bibles are printed in-country illegally or distributed digitally.

The Open Doors website explains that anyone can contribute to the “largest on-the-ground network of support for persecuted Christians in the world” and therefore “help pass on the light of the gospel to people desperate for God’s Word.”

According to Curry, people everywhere should be able to own their own Bible if they want to. “We know from experience that having access to Scripture can provide not only spiritual growth, but comfort and strength when faced with difficult circumstances,” Curry said.
