BUDAPEST (Worthy News) – Hungary’s prime minister has warned that the West’s military support for Ukraine will lead to World World III.

Viktor Orbán made the comments as the Hungarian Parliament adopted a resolution demanding peace and a ceasefire.

Opposition Socialists said it was “shameful” that Hungary’s ruling “Fidesz- Christian Democrat alliance” rejected the United Nations’ “pro-peace resolution” on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Instead, the government “forced through Parliament” a resolution “built on lies” and “obscures the responsibilities for the war,” the Socialists claimed.

Bertalan Tóth, the Socialists’ group leader, said the resolution aims to divert attention from everyday cost-of-living problems in Hungary, which has “the highest inflation in Europe” of around 25 percent.

However, Orbán, whose government condemned Russia’s invasion but still maintains close relations with Moscow, defended the resolution. “The Hungarian position is not about what type of peace treaty should be signed but about demanding a ceasefire.”

He noted that the war in neighboring Ukraine “is becoming increasingly bloody and brutal, yet the number of European countries and leaders supporting peace is not on the rise at all.”

MANY KILLED

Orbán said the number of casualties was “well over 100,000 on both sides” and “it should … make those that have so far supported the war from the outside shift towards peace”.

Yet he complained that “a large part of Europe, however, is still on the side of war, providing Ukraine with more and more brutal equipment.”

Orbán noted that European leaders were “close to discussing the possibility of EU members sending some kind of peace-keeping troops” to Ukraine. “We are close to that line which we had earlier thought could not be crossed.”

He warned that as “more and more decisions are passed on using ever newer and stronger weapons” and “the West provides Ukraine with more and more modern equipment … the threat of a world war is no literary exaggeration.”

While “it could sound extremely exaggerated when some European and American leaders say that if all goes on like this, we could arrive at the Third World War. It is a real danger at the moment,” he said.

“Everybody feels that this conflict could become a world war, and they, too, could be affected,” Orbán claimed.

WEST PRO-EUROPE

Western Europe’s “pro-war stance is based on moral considerations: they think that the war and Ukraine must be supported because that is the right thing to do,” he stressed.

“Hungary, however, thinks peace must be supported morally. And the world is rather in support of the Hungarian position,” the prime minister added, referring to China and other nations.

He urged the world to understand Hungary’s opinion. Since the war in Ukraine is going on in “Hungary’s neighborhood,” the conflict is “worrying and dangerous,” Orbán told public radio, adding that “our security is being jeopardized.”

His comments followed observations by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko who told Parliament that increasing Western military aid to Ukraine threatens to provoke a nuclear war. The autocratic leader, who gave Russia permission to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus, also believes there should be a ceasefire in Ukraine and a long-term peace settlement.
