(Worthy News) – President Trump has considered forming a new political party called the “Patriot Party” after he leaves office, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

In its report, the WSJ says “people familiar with the matter” revealed Mr. Trump has had discussions with associates and aides about maintaining political influence through the formation of a party that would compete with the Republican and Democratic parties.

Mr. Trump has been angered by a number of Republican leaders for their acceptance that President-elect Joe Biden won the November 3 general election, the WSJ said. Among other leaders with whom Mr. Trump has argued in recent days is his formerly strong political ally Senator Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), who stated from the Senate floor Tuesday that the president and other powerful leaders had provoked rioters to storm the Capitol through feeding them lies.

It is not clear how serious Mr. Trump is about launching a new party as this would take up a lot of time and financial investment. On the other hand, the WSJ reports, “the president has a large base of supporters, some of whom were not deeply involved in Republican politics prior to Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign.”

In the event Mr. Trump does decide to found the “Patriot Party,” the WSJ notes, the new party “would likely face intense opposition from Republican party officials, who would chafe at the thought of Mr. Trump peeling off support from GOP candidates.”
